Press Release: German Tanker Shipping & Sea IT announce strategic partnership for vessel-IT management

Bremen, Germany – October 2024:

Sea IT System Int AB and German Tanker Shipping GmbH (GTS) are pleased to announce a strategic partnership focusing on the implementation of full IT-vessel management across GTS’s fleet of Tanker vessels, including their new builds and select existing vessels. This collaboration builds upon the successful completion of a Proof of Concept (PoC) in October 2024, conducted aboard the 40,600 tdw tanker TMS Seacod during drydock in Denmark.

The PoC featured Sea IT’s BlueCORE platform, a robust industrial-grade IT solution designed to harmonize security, applications, OT, development and the continuous operational use onboard vessels. The hybrid communication setup deployed for this trial integrated Starlink, VSAT as back up, and GSM. This approach showcases how Sea IT’s BlueCORE can deliver cutting-edge, cost-efficient IT infrastructure while meeting the ever-increasing demands for secure, reliable digital services within the maritime industry.

Richard Seemann, CFO of GTS, highlighted the importance of this partnership

“The maritime industry is shifting rapidly toward digitalization, and vessel owners and operators are investing strategically in tools and applications to adapt to this shift. Sea IT’s BlueCORE solution offers us a seamless, integrated IT platform that allows our internal IT staff to focus on development, leaving liability and system management to a trusted, industry-focused partner.”

Seemann also emphasized the benefits of this new approach, stating: “This partnership ensures optimized, sustainable operations. It takes us beyond traditional IT business models and prepares us to meet future regulatory and operational challenges head-on.”

“We are thrilled to partner with GTS on this journey. Our BlueCORE platform and hybrid communications solutions have proven to meet the diverse challenges shipowners face today. The flexibility of the BlueCORE community allows for continuous learning and development, ensuring that our customers stay relevant and we provide the most cost-effective and modern solutions for our clients.”

With over two decades of experience in the maritime IT sector, Sea IT continues to be a leading provider of comprehensive, scalable, and secure IT solutions for the maritime industry. The deployment of BlueCORE across GTS’s fleet not only exemplifies the commitment to innovation but also strengthens GTS’s ability to achieve digital transformation with minimal disruption.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone not just for GTS, but for European vessel operators of a similar profile. Historically, many in this sector have maintained more traditional approaches to IT and vessel management. With this partnership, GTS is leading the charge in embracing digital transformation, reflecting a broader shift in the industry. As more shipowners recognize the strategic importance of advanced IT infrastructure, partnerships like these will play an important role in reshaping operations and setting new standards for efficiency, security, and sustainability.
