New capabilities in the Sea IT Portal

Digital infrastructure does not only exist onboard vessels. It also lives onshore, where technical teams and fleet managers need a clear and reliable overview of what is happening across their fleet.

Over time, the Sea IT Portal has evolved into a central place for that visibility. It brings together operational data, vessel information, and connectivity insights in a way that allows teams to understand their fleet environment without having to jump between multiple systems.

In our latest update, we have introduced several new capabilities to the Sea IT Portal’s map view, aimed at making it easier to understand both vessel positioning and the operational context around it.

One of the additions is the integration of environmental layers directly in the map. Users can now overlay weather related information such as wind and cloud coverage, allowing the map to provide a clearer picture of the conditions vessels are operating in. Instead of switching between different tools, the information can now be viewed directly alongside fleet positions in the same interface.

The map functionality itself has also been expanded with new tools for measuring and analysing positions. A line tool allows users to quickly calculate distances between vessels or locations, while a polygon tool makes it possible to define and measure areas directly on the map. These tools provide a simple way to understand spatial relationships without leaving the Sea IT Portal.

To make these tools easier to access during daily use, a new context menu has also been introduced in the map view. On desktop environments this allows users to quickly access measurement and drawing functions directly from the map itself, without having to open the full drawer interface each time. The goal is simply to reduce friction and make common tasks faster to perform.

In addition to these improvements, the Sea IT Portal now also supports the ingestion of AIS positions. This makes it possible to display vessels that do not have a Sea IT system installed onboard. By combining Sea IT system data with AIS based positioning, the Sea IT Portal can now provide a broader fleet overview where both connected and non connected vessels can be visualised in the same environment.

Together, these updates are part of our ongoing effort to make the Sea IT Portal not only a technical interface, but a practical operational tool for teams working with vessel infrastructure, connectivity, and fleet operations.

As fleets become increasingly connected and data driven, having a clear and structured overview becomes just as important as the systems themselves.

The Sea IT Portal continues to evolve with that goal in mind.
